Learn, Discover, Share, Connect

The Government Data Science Festival 2022 is a space for the government and public sector data science community, and colleagues in the academic sector, to come together to learn, discover, share and connect.

We’ve come a long way since Festival 2020, which took the opportunity to reflect on 'Enabling the new normal: The role of data science in moving towards a post-COVID world'.

In 2022, we invite you to reflect on all that’s been learned and look at the path ahead, as we consider ‘The Future of Data Science for Public Good’.

Join us to explore the core themes of:

Foundations for the Future

How we do data science, from exploring cutting edge methods, tools and techniques, building data science skills in organisations, projects and pipelines, the challenge of operationalising, and more…

Future Impact

The issues, challenges and questions that will impact society; how we evaluate them and measure the impact of our work; ethical considerations in data science.

Your Future

Developing your skills and career in data science.

What to expect

The Festival is brought to you by the Office for National Statistics Data Science Campus, on behalf of the Government Data Science Partnership.

We are as committed as ever to providing a space for the government and UK public sector data science community, and colleagues in the academic sector, to come together to learn, discover, share and connect.

Learn

At the heart of the Festival are opportunities to learn. With daily sessions, workshops, clinics and skill-swaps, we’ll be providing material for everyone from those considering dipping their toe into Data Science to fully-immersed Data Scientists and everyone in between. Our aim at the end of the Festival is for delegates to have opened, filled or simply replenished their toolbox as they go to work on the future of Data Science.

Discover

With two weeks’ worth of content to choose from in a variety of formats, you can curate your own personal Festival experience. We invite you to be bold, be collaborative, be curious – and be brave! Ever been part of a Hackathon? Want to learn something fast at a Masterclass? We have eleven strands to explore and discover – immerse yourself in opportunity and see what you find.

Share

Our Data Science community includes data scientists, analysts and a range of professions who enable the delivery of data science in UK government and the public sector. The Data Science Festival brings this community together and with it becomes a thriving hub of knowledge, experience and skills! This is an opportunity to grow your network and keep the conversation going after the Festival - make the most of the programme by sharing what you’ve learnt or want to learn via our Slack channel and on social media.

Connect

We’ll be bringing you plenty of opportunities to connect with the data science community. Check out the programme of daily Social Spaces – we're hosting yoga, lunchtime walks, art groups and more – in a bid to get minds rejuvenated, bodies moving and people connecting. You can gather on our Slack Channel and post on the Festival Noticeboard – keep your eye out for recommendations, tips, tricks, questions and advice! And don’t worry – these connections won’t be lost after the Festival is over – we'll keep the board open so you can continue the conversation.
