Overview

Delivering greater resilience

Consecutive global disruptions since the COVID-19 pandemic to the war in Ukraine combined with the environmental threats borne from climate change, have highlighted the fragility of global supply chains and weaknesses in the support we provide to maintain and sustain some of Defence’s key capabilities. These disruptions alongside ongoing workforce and financial pressures are combining to create a more challenging environment.  But above all else the deteriorating global geo-political situation has created the imperative to deliver greater resilience to ensure that Defence is fit to fight both the current and future fight. SupportNet23 is an opportunity for Defence leaders, industry, academia, and international partners to discuss and reflect on how we can deliver greater resilience for UK Defence Support.

SupportNet23 aim

The Defence Support Strategy recognised the resilience of Support as both a central tenet of UK Defence’s credibility to deter conflict and as a vital enabler of operational success and set out the key steps Defence must take to realise the vision for a more resilient Support enterprise.

Given the deteriorating geo-political context, SupportNet23 is an opportunity for Defence leaders, industry, academia, and international partners to discuss and reflect on the steps already taken and those we must take next to go further and faster. Over the course of the conference, we will hear from:

  • UK Defence including Strategic Command, our Front Line Commands and Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S)
  • Industry experts
  • External partners and academics

Ahead of SupportNet23, participants are asked to consider the following questions:

  • What opportunities can be grasped immediately to strengthen the resilience of Defence Support over the next 5 years?
  • What decisions should we be taking now to deliver greater resilience over the longer term, consistent with the overarching Support Vision that by 2035 Defence Support continually secures Support Advantage, enabling Defence to outpace, outwit and where necessary out-fight its enemies?
